Mirari Creatio
2024
I’ve always had a longing to explore nature in my photographic work. I’ve always found myself admiring every aspect of the natural world. My inspiration stems from the complexity and pure beauty of nature contrasted with human interaction and influence upon it. In this series, I am exploring this intersection between nature and humanity by using reflections as a metaphor. The reflections capture nature’s inherent beauty while prompting viewers to self-reflect. I’ve chosen the Latin language for the naming of this series because the word “reflection” originates from the the Latin verb “reflectere.” This means “to bend back,” representing the act of considering something deeply and analyzing different angles and perspectives. The word “mirror” stems from the Latin word “mirari” which means “to admire.” Likewise, the word “creation” in Latin is “creatio.” In essence, this series is meant to admire creation and to reflect deeply on the different perspectives of humanity's influence. The photographs in this series aim to encourage the viewers to look past the surface of what they are seeing and contemplate their personal influence on the natural world. Some images emphasize the human touch within the environment, while others are targeted to reflect nature's untouched beauty. Each photograph is distinct from one another, forcing viewers to pause and reflect while creating a memorable image that lingers after viewing. In creating this series, I faced the challenge of finding fresh ways to capture reflections in nature while maintaining a cohesive set of photographs. My goal was to ensure each photograph stands out individually but also contributes to the whole series together. I hope this series will inspire the audience to contemplate their interaction and relationship with the world around them and to appreciate nature’s beauty as it is.
